WE'RE HIRING
Omnipotent Software Engineer
OK, we're not requiring godlike powers. But Virgance is looking for the best software developers in the industry. You should have a passion for solving complex design and scalability problems in an efficient, maintainable and reusable way.
At Virgance, you can have your code in production, improving the world, within a week of your first day in the office.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain web application and infrastructure components
- Code highly efficient and scalable software
- Refactor and improve maintainability of the codebase
- Rapidly fix bugs and solve problems
- Solve complex scalability, platform and integration problems
- Report to the VP Engineering; work directly with the founders and other engineers.
Requirements
- B.S., M.S. or Ph.D., Computer Science or related field
- Excellent knowledge and experience with both object-oriented and service-oriented programming paradigms (including C++ and/or JAVA)
- Excellent knowledge of database theory; familiarity with MySQL
- High levels of creativity and quick problem solving capabilities
- Rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated engineer who can take the initiative and work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Experience working with a version control system
- Experience with perl, PHP, python or Ruby

Front-end Developer
You lead a conflicted life. On the one hand, you are constantly pained by the terrible web design, non-compliant CSS and slow javascript that plagues the web. On the other hand, you are the solution to all these problems.
Virgance is looking for a badass javascript, CSS, XHTML front-end ninja. You should have a passion for working on extensible platforms, leveraging the latest open source technologies. Cross-browser compatible W3C-compliant XHTML and CSS flows freely through your fingers, and then degrade gracefully under exceptions. This website pains you, and you want to fix it.

- Experience building scalable web applications
- Experience working with a version control system

We are looking for someone who is willing to do all sorts of things in order to amplify the effectiveness of Virgance management. Candidates must have exceptional communications skills, be flexible yet thorough and possess the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You are down for whatever, which is good, since we will always have new surprises for you.
Requirements:
- BA/BS degree preferred with a strong academic record.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- You have a blackbelt in coordinating stuff, and you can perform administrative tasks including: calendar management, travel arrangements, preparing and tracking expense reports, helping out with payroll, administrating our employee benefits program, ordering pizza, etc.
- You may not be as good at Excel as Steve, but you are definitely better than Brent.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Upbeat, friendly, energetic.
- You have some sort of track record of trying to make the world a better place
- You are excited to hit the ground running and take charge of the position
- You use online social networks
- You are OK with being the person who has to wait on hold with some customer service rep at some big company who sold us something that isn't working for whatever reason
- If something needs to happen, and no one knows how to do it, you will somehow figure out how to do it
Pluses:
- You have actual experience doing this sort of thing. Note that it's not a requirement.
- Your real reason for being interested in this job is that you want to spend a few years learning all the tricks to creating a successful startup, meeting a lot of amazing people, and you plan to bail in a few years to go take over the world yourself.
